Park Eyes Repeat at Worlds

Park Tae-hwan has his sights set on repeating in the men's 400-meter freestyle at the World Swimming Championships, scheduled for July 19 to Aug. 2 in Rome. ``As I won a gold medal in the 400 meters in the 2007 championships, I am targeting another gold in the race,'' Park told reporters at the University of Southern California (USC) on Thursday (Seoul Time).
The 19-year-old, who also won a gold medal in the 400-meter race at the Beijing Olympics last year, has been training there since April 16 under USC swimming coach Dave Salo, who also taught Olympians Amanda Beard and Larsen Jensen. Park, the first South Korean to bring home swimming gold medals in the history of the Olympics and World Championships, also spent three weeks training at USC in January. ``I focused on physical strength in the first training, but now stamina is a priority,'' he said.
