Baby in right-to-life battle dies

A seriously ill baby, whose parents lost a court battle to keep him alive on a ventilator, has died.

The baby is known as "Baby OT" died. Baby OT was a boy. Baby OT was only nine month old. He had a had brain damage, respiratory failure and a rare metabolic disorder.

His parents appealed against a ruling at London's High Court that it would be the best if he did "life-sustaining treatment".

The British Medical Association known as (BMA) supported the doctors' actions, as did some Christian groups.

Baby OT was unable to breathe by himself and died at 10.08 a.m. Greenwich Mean Time after doctors withdrew his treatment.

His parents said that they were "deeply distressed" by the decision and said the life of their boy was worth preserving.

He died peacefully. The couple said through their solicitor after the death was announced. During his short time with them, Baby OT became the focus of their lives. They were present during his last moments, together with his extended family.
